Unless noted otherwise all images and articles and code on this site are the property of the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE) or its affiliates, or has been obtained with permission. Copying or re-posting of articles or images is not permitted without the express written permission of IGE. Linking to our site is strongly encouraged, sending us a note that you do is encouraged as well.
Refund Policy
If you need a refund on something you purchased from the IGE Webstore (www.globalengage.com), please call +1(703) 527.3100 or send an e-mail to info@globalengage.org. An IGE employee will contact you to enquire about the date of your purchase, the item(s) purchased and the credit card number you used to make your purchase.
Your Privacy
At the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE) we take your privacy on the Internet very seriously. This privacy statement describes IGE's policy concerning the gathering and sharing of visitors' information through the IGE web site. It applies to all "IGE sites" - that is, all sites within the "globalengage.org" domain name. You should note that through this site you may reach or be directed to other sites that relate to IGE, such as the Council on Faith and International Affairs (www.cfia.org), the Global Engagement Network (www.globalchristian.org), IGE's Web Store (www.globalengage.com), or the sites of our IGE chapters. These sites have their own privacy statements which are similar to this one but may vary slightly. By visiting the IGE website you are accepting the practices described in this policy.
What information does IGE collect?
Normal website usage
In general, browsing the IGE site will not reveal who you are or any personal information about yourself. Server logs from our Web Hosting service records IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the web site that referred you to us, the files you downloaded, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits.
Collection of personally identifiable information
If you register for an IGE newsletter, log on to the member area of the IGE site, order books or publications from IGE, request information, provide feedback, apply for a job, join a discussion group or join an electronic mailing list, you will be asked to provide personal information such as your name, postal address and e-mail address. This information is collected only with your knowledge and permission, and is kept in various IGE databases that are secured and encrypted. If you are purchasing something on the web, you may be asked to provide your credit card details.
IGE sites with specific requirements to collect personal information may publish a privacy policy specific for that site. In these cases, the site-specific policies will be complementary to this general IGE privacy policy, but will give additional details for that particular use.
For certain IGE sites, registering or supplying personal information sets a cookie.* By setting this cookie, IGE will remember your details the next time you visit, so you don't have to re-enter the information. This helps us to provide you with a better service.
Joining electronic discussion groups may mean that other participants of the discussion group (including non-IGE employees) will see personal information that you have volunteered. For open discussion groups, this information will be public.
What does IGE do with the information it collects?
Normal web usage
We analyze traffic to our site on a weekly basis, and this anonymous but specific information helps us make our site more user-friendly and useful to all users. It is not connected with any personal information. However, if you have registered with IGE in connection with any activity on the IGE site, the information we collect about your normal web usage will be identifiable to you.
Personally identifiable information
IGE may use the personal information you provide to:
- Contact you - either in response to a query or suggestion, or to mail newsletters, documents, publications, etc. to you, and we also may provide the information to the IGE national committees so they can contact you as well;
- Manage and process your job application;
- Confirm your purchases and registrations on the site;
- Obtain payment for purchases through the site (via credit card);
- "Remember" your online profile and preferences;
- Help you quickly find information that is relevant to you based on your interests, and help us create site contents most relevant to you; and/or
- Undertake statistical analysis of site traffic.
What if I don't want to provide personal information?
Providing personal information on the IGE web site is optional. If you choose not to provide personal information, you can still browse and use the IGE site, but you will not be able to carry out certain actions such as purchasing items, registering for a newsletter, or applying for a job.
Opting out and changing your information
At any time, you can cancel or modify your information by returning to the web page where you first provided the information and contacting the focal point for that page/relevant IGE department. Where contact details are not provided on the page, you can contact info@globalengage.org for further information.
Security
We do not sell or share any personally identifiable information volunteered on the IGE site to any third party without prior consent. Any information provided to IGE by users of the IGE site is held with the utmost care and security, and will not be used in ways other than as set forth in this privacy policy, or in any site-specific policies, or in ways to which you have explicitly consented. IGE employs a range of techniques and security measures to protect the information maintained on our system from loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, IGE assumes no responsibility for the security of information.
External Sites
The IGE site contains link to sites external to the globalengage.org domain. IGE is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites.

* cookies: a Cookie is a small amount of data that is sent from the web server to your browser. It is normally used to assign a unique identification to your computer and securely store information such as user IDs, passwords, preferences, and online profiles. It is stored on the hard drive of your computer. You can choose not to have cookies delivered by IGE sites by changing your browser settings. Different web sites can send their own cookies to your computer. To protect your privacy, your browser only allows a web site to access the cookies it has already sent you, no the cookies sent by other sites.
