Hardest Up, Hardest Hit: Women In Pakistan

The October 2005 earthquake that shocked northern Pakistan not only created immediate food and shelter insecurity but also exacerbated social ills, especially against women. Pakistani women are often poor, domestically abused, overworked and undereducated. In reaction to the invasion of Western consumer goods, troops, and values, Muslim countries seek to preserve their traditional identity, often by marginalizing women. These countries thus undermine the social and economic development they seek. Recognizing equal justice for all people as a human value, not just a Western one, will improve lives in all societies.Read more: Hardest Up, Hardest Hit: Women In Pakistan
