A.L.A.R.M.ing Access

02 February 2012

How do you engage globally? Through a simple acronym, A.L.A.R.M., IGE's President offers some reflections about how to engage globally. If you don't do these simple things—at least—then the alarm will go out, and you will not have access to the culture and community that you want to engage.

The Complexities of Peace and Religious Freedom in Laos

27 January 2012

Recently back from a trip to Laos, Dr. Stephen Bailey shares some insight into the religious environment in Laos and how IGE continues to partner with locals to help build a sustainable environment for religious freedom. "One moment we were talking about how to build peace, the next we were talking about how to unravel the conflict created by the arrest of eight Christians during a Christmas celebration."

IGE and Vietnamese Delegation Discuss Practical Projects on Religious Freedom Engagement

27 December 2011

On 9 December, 2011, IGE staff met with a Vietnamese delegation from the Committee for Foreign NGO Affairs (COMINGO) at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the delegation's visit was to build relationships with American NGO partners and to understand how NGOs work in the U.S. During the meeting IGE stressed the ongoing need for Religious Freedom Seminars at the provincial level, church registration, formal education for religious leaders, and conflict resolution training for religious leaders and government officials. The Vietnamese delegation suggested initiatives of collaboration with IGE to promote people-to-people understanding about religious freedom in the U.S. and in Vietnam.

The Resilience of Reconciliation

27 December 2011

In this reflection, Dr. Chris Seiple asks what it means for Christians to truly follow their faith and follow the command to love God, neighbor, and enemy--and consequently, what that means for security in our global century.

Chris Seiple on Why Accountability is the Defining Issue of the 2012 Presidential Election

01 December 2011

In this article for Christianity Today, Chris Seiple argues that Americans, the markets, and the world yearn for the humble certitude of accountability. Americans are constitutionally called to critique and correct ourselves civilly through government. It should also be clear, however, that Christians who happen to be American cannot reform government without renewing our godly principles.

The Politics of Jesus’ Birth

23 November 2011

In this 2003 reprise, Chris Seiple argues that the politics of Jesus' birth is an essential chapter of the Christmas narrative. "Putting Christ back in Christmas," he writes, "means putting the 'King of the Jews' back in the story."

The Year in Review

23 November 2011

Working with local partners to build religious freedom takes time, truth, and trust. This patient process is full of setbacks, and opportunities. This year, for example, IGE was asked into honest and ongoing policy discussions about Muslims and Tibetans in Western China, as well as religious freedom training seminars at the provincial level in Laos and Vietnam. IGE is also unusually positioned for partnerships in Syria and Pakistan (once those situations stabilize). We ask for and need your prayers, and support.
