Dr. Diane Whitmore Schanzenbach

Dr. Diane Whitmore is an economist on the faculty of the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. She researches the effects of anti-poverty programs in the United States and developing countries. She has written on a wide variety of topics, including the allocation of airline access to China, the effect of employment on college students, and the impact of a proposed Social Security reform. In addition, she is a scholar in the Center for Public Justice's Civitas Program in Faith and Public Affairs, and actively serves in her local church. Prior to graduate school, Whitmore served on the President's Council of Economic Advisers. There she co-authored an influential report on the decline in public welfare caseloads and authored the roundup page of the Weekly Economic Briefing of the President. She also worked as a Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. She received a B.A. magna cum laude in economics and religion from Wellesley College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Princeton. She is a member of CFIA’s Experts panel.
