Research Projects
Academic disciplines and journals that address international relations have generally given religion short shrift, while the theology and religious studies fields have seldom incorporated in-depth consideration of international relations. The Center on Faith & International Affairs builds interdisciplinary bridges of understanding through its Research Projects. These provide realistic assessments of both the virtues and pitfalls of faith-based participation in international affairs.
Religion & Security Research Project
The Center's Religion & Security Research Project explores the intersections among religious belief, identity, and political stability. The project builds on IGE’s groundbreaking book Religion and Security: The New Nexus in International Relations (Rowman & Littlefield, 2004), which came out of a national conference convened by IGE in 2003. The project seeks to provide scholars and policymakers with nuanced perspectives on both the stabilizing and destabilizing effects of religious practice in global affairs.
